Meet the team

Here at Tortola Sailing & Sights we pride ourselves on being able to offer you a great skipper, who is patience and calm in 'all weathers'. Our instructors have bucket loads of experience and knowledge to share with you. We have had students cry at the end of the course because they didn't want to leave these two behind...... come down and meet the guys.

Martin, more commonly know as ‘Smudge, got the sailing bug on his first major sailing trip, which saw him participate in the 2009 BVI Spring Regatta as part of a British Army race crew and it is here where he first discovered the wonders of the Caribbean.
Since then he has been busy making a life of sailing and teaching, travelling ½ way around the world many times.

The last long voyage was in 2015, seen him sailing 112ft Seamester schooner, Argo, from Cape Town, South Africa to Antigua in the Caribbean.
Trained as an RYA, ASA & IYT Cruising Instructor, teaching is his passion, in recent times Smudge has been teaching in USA & BVI. Before joining TSS, Smudge filled the Captaincy position the sister Seamester’s schooner the 88ft Ocean Star. Here he not only took care of the vessel and crew but also taught a college accredited leadership course.
Always busy, Smudge has also got his Advanced Open Water PADI diving certificate, and loves to surf on his days off.

the BVI is the only place to be as everyone always has a smile on their face, it is the best sailing playground in the world!”
