One Day Sailing – LEARN THE ROPES

A fun and practical day of learning ‘the ropes’! Our 1 day course is the way to go if you want to have an active day of sailing and to find out if sailing is the thing for you.
During your day on the water you will learn the first steps to becoming a competent and useful crew member in a fun and safe environment. It will give you the opportunity to see the beautiful BVI islands from the water, enjoying the beautiful Caribbean sea while you learn to become part of an active working crew.
There is no prerequisite, you don't have to ever stepped foot on a boat before, this course is designed to get you comfortable on sailing boats; it will give you confidence on the water and give you the opportunity to decide if you want to learn to sail without having to commit to a week long sailing course. If you have experience sailing our instructor will make sure you learn some new things and you have an active day out on the water.
Our professional ASA/IYT certified instructors are patient and have a lot of experience, they will teach you ‘the ropes’ in a relaxed and friendly way. From the moment you step aboard you will be encouraged to play an active part on the boat, while also enjoying a relaxed day on the water. Of course there can be time for swimming in the crystal clear waters.
The course content consists (but not be limited to) the following:
- Nautical terminology
- Safety briefing
- Rope work
- Basic rules of the road
- Basic sail handling
Our professional certified instructors are patient and have a lot of experience, they will teach you in a relaxed and friendly way, and support you every wave of the way. From the moment you step aboard you will be encouraged to play an active part on the boat together with the other students. You will get hands-on experience and feel the exhilaration of being part of a working crew.
This 1 day, 'Learn the Ropes' course is a fun, relaxing and professionally run day of sailing; it will give you an insight into the world of sailing and a taster for the fun you can have on the water, if you continue to sail. Our experienced ASA/IYT instructor will adapt what you learn based on your prior experience, all levels can join for a great day of sailing.
When you complete this 1 day course with us and you decide you want to do another course at TSS you will receive a 10% discount on any course booked within one month of your Learn the Ropes day (the start date of the course does not have to be within that month).
You will be learning to sail on a monohull. The instructor to student ratio will not be more than 1 to 5.
WHAT TO PACK
Sailing means living in close quarters so please try to travel light. A small backpack or sports/duffel bag would be best.
Some recommendations on what to bring aboard:
- Comfortable airy clothes (t-shirt & shorts advised. Long sleeves if you want to cover up from the sun when stood at the helm)
- Deck or soft shoe (not necessary/essential - most people go barefoot)
- Mosquito spray
- Bathing suit
- Travel insurance
- A logbook to sign of your sailing miles
- (And dollars - ATMs are not always reliable on the island)
